Joe Allbee , the first Celina Governors Cup Winner in 1958 raced 225 and 280 class boats for over 20 years. He built 2 boats and motors and helped competitors with their boats, many times between racing heats. Joe was the president of the Marine Prop Riders from 1965 to 1968 and was instrumental in creating and funding several local Michigan races.
 

He built his first boat as a "Champion" design from plans, and ran in the 225 cubic inch class with a ford flathead.
The second boat was a Ted Jones design built by Les Staudacher in Kawkawlin Mich in 1953 and was launched in 1954 as a 225 cubic inch running the ford flathead with 2 2-barrel carburetors.

  In 1958 when the 280 cubic inch class was formed, the ford flathead was swapped for a small block chevy and the boat was run as a 280 "E" boat.
 

The Chevy was built by a corvette engineer from the GM Tech center and made the boat very competitive.
In 1962 he built his third boat from Ted Jones plans as a long 280, 17 1/2 feet vs 16 ft for a regular 280. The 3rd boat has a distinctive deck line with the Ted Jones designed curved-deck changed to show the sponson trim line. The SirRonIII is currently running in the vintage class.
